Art: York Place Art Studios

Art-Main

The notion of art as an exclusive club, with musty old portraits hung in drafty galleries, is thankfully long consigned to the past. These days, especially in forward-looking locales like Brighton, you’re far more likely to encounter art as part of a wider sensory experience, Warhol’s ‘happenings’ finding a 21st Century reality.

York Place Studios, a couple of doors up from the Hobgoblin, is one such vanguard of creativity. Until May it’s host to CUB, with affordable art including screen prints and paintings as well as mix media using 100-year old book pages, shellac and thread. It’s also a constantly evolving design and print studio with projections and tunes providing a conducive backdrop to both artistic creation and consumption, with free drop-in consultations for design commissions.
