In the grunge-rich 90s, Seattle’s Earth were touted as the heaviest band alive, their crushing, speed-reduced riff instrumentals pouring from speakers like lava. Very much a cult concern back in the day, the intervening years have seen Earth’s unique low frequency explorations slowly seep into the fabric of rock. After a long absence, during which numerous drone disciples, notably Sunn O))) kept their flame alive, Earth returned with a broader palette coloured by parched country and minimal classicism.
