Is it really in its ninth year already? The Fiery Foods Festival celebrates a whole variety of chilli and spicy food with over 50 producers offering a broad variety to sample. From classic sauces and dips to chutneys and jams, there has even been chilli beer in previous years. Expect lots of samples on offer with crackers to dip so you can very quickly find out what chilli you can handle, and what level you can’t.
The festival will also feature the annual National Chilli Awards for the best chilli products. However the highlight each year is the chilli eating competition, possibly a reflection of human behaviour in both those watching the suffering eagerly in the crowd and those willing to participate. Increasingly hot chillis are given to each competitor along with a glass of milk on standby to drink to declare defeat, and a discrete bucket in case defeat takes them by surprise.
With live music from Brighton bands Paperboy, Z-Star, The Firework Mountain Company, Flash Mob Jazz and Kingsize Slim.
