Besides a talent for fishing, what do gannets and guillemots have in common? They’ve both had their names appropriated for bands led by Fyfe Dangerfield. But other than the feathery monikers and the fluffy-haired front man, these bands have few similarities. Far from the placid indie rock of Guillemots, Gannets are a strange beast with influences that could broadly be described as acid jazz, abstract sounds and avant-garde instrumentals. Does sound a bit like five people playing different songs, but when it comes together, it’s worth it.
