Portico Quartet’s debut album, ‘Knee-deep In The North Sea’ was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2008, and their original, subtle take on jazz has been enthralling audiences ever since. Having started out as buskers, they retain a charming improvised feel in their live sets. Distinctive not just because of their use of the Hang instrument, but because of a rhythmic melancholy which stays with the listener long after the song ends. Enchanting.
