For this exclusive show at Brighton Dome, Seun Kuti will be joined onstage by his late father’s legendary band, Egypt 80, and Akala, now known as a politically engaged rapper and previously for being Ms Dynamite’s sparky little brother. A family affair, Seun and his older brother Femi have brought afrobeat to a commercial and critical high, whilst keeping powerful themes of unity and progression at the core of their music. Akala’s quick-fire rap has gained him accolades in the grime scene, but his thoughtful lyrics about history and politics make him a relevant societal commentator too. This evening’s unusual collaboration should be joyous and thought-provoking in equal measure.
