There was much anticipation for Johnny Marr’s sold out show at the Concorde. He’s certainly been active since leaving his most famous role as guitarist in The Smiths – playing with Modest Mouse and The Cribs amongst others. This, however, was his first solo tour.
He was promoting his first solo album ‘The Messenger’ which has enjoyed positive reviews since its release in February this year. His entrance on stage alongside a three-piece band received a hero’s welcome, and his set was a mixture of new material and some much-loved Smiths classics.
Unsurprisingly, the main room was rammed all the way to the back, leaving the main bar almost entirely empty. After such a strong performance, Marr’s upcoming appearances at Reading and Leeds Festival will definitely be ones to watch.
