Fifi Rong, Sunday 13th March

The Green Door Store takes a break from its usual diet of guitar bands to bring you something a little different this month. Fifi Rong is a Beijing-born songwriter, singer and producer – a kind of DIY laptop diva with a gothic geisha style, a Bjork-like sense of idiosyncratic intent and a strain of far-east influences. At a push we’d call it trip hop, but only because we know she’s worked with Tricky in the past. Her ‘Violently Silently’ EP, released late last year, features five songs that all share common sounds and samples, each track a remix of another. It’s an intriguing method, one that sits well with the meditative and almost whispered dream-state vocals. We hear there’s a full length album in the pipeline, but beyond that, it’s probably wise to stave off all expectations of this unique and singular artist.

Support comes from Ink Project and Coreysan. More info here.
