Street Source No.7

This is the seventh edition of Street Source, a regular feature showcasing photos taken around Brighton over the course of a month by one of our photographers. The idea is to share spontaneous moments around town – be it incidental street scenes, snapshots of people’s lives or images of the city as a landscape. Each month we ask a different local photographer to participate.

During September Sarah Caust documented the change in the seasons with this set of tranquil – and possibly eerie – shots of empty streets and open skies. She had this to say about the images she chose:

“September is the month where we say goodbye to Summer, the leaves begin to orange and the rain begins to fall and Autumn is here before we know it. It’s a month to reflect and a month to change.

This photo series is all about the simple, everyday things. The reflection. The change. But also what’s always there, and remembering to appreciate it.

It’s about the same building you walk past on your way to work everyday and the same familiar breakfast spot. But with new eyes. The parts of a building you never looked at, the very top with a different coloured brick or the small intricate door handles. But when you notice those bits it’s like looking at a whole new building.

Sunlight illuminating hidden gems, with thanks to golden hours, morning and evening are my favourite times of the day, so here’s a month to celebrate.”
