Little Boots

PUSHING FOR LOOP
Electronic-flavoured music fest Loop is back for 2009 with a line-up suitable for its two-day extension. Squarepusher will top the bill on Saturday, following sets by The Field, The Invisible, We Have Band, Plugs, The Sian Alice Group, Casiokids, The XX and more. Sunday showcases Tunng, Esser, Emiliana Torrini and James Yuill amongst others. Victoria Gardens will host the whole shebang on the weekend of 11th and 12th July. Check loopbrighton.com for more.

THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR STALKING
Little Boots, winner of BBC Sound of 2009 and general star-in-the-making, has been recording songs for her debut album in Brighton recently. She’s working with local writer/producer Richard ‘Biff’ Stannard, best known for his work with Kylie Minogue and the Spice Girls. We wonder if NME would be so interested in Miss Boots if they knew about that? Nonetheless, we recommend a wander around the east end of Kemptown if you want to spot a few pop stars on their lunch breaks.

GIG IN AID OF AID
The Coalition is hosting a charity gig under the moniker of Bright-AID on Friday 3rd, featuring the very excellent Gloria Cycles, The Third Man and Ikoma, with a guest DJ from 11.30. A good chance to see some great local music and help those less fortunate than you, which in the current economic crisis could be pretty much anyone.

MAURA BRIGHTON AT GLASTO
Brighton’s own Maura Kincaid will join The Boss, Shaky and, er, Blur, at this year’s Glastonbury Festival after winning the Eavises’ Emerging Talent Competition. Ready yourself, or find out what you’ll be missing, at myspace.com/maurakincaid

MUTHAS ON MANOUEVRES
The Red Mutha roadshow is leaving these shores for the rest of April and taking up residence in Quartier 21, a prestigious space in the centre of Austria’s museum quarter. The funky outfitters are part of a collective of Brighton designers, bloggers and artists exporting some home-grown cultural cool to the mountain-gazers, including drag artiste Violet Venom, designer/photographers Laura Krikke and Seb Archibald, performance artist Cherry Gemma as well as SOURCE’s own fashion guru Sam Hiscox. A fashion fun run flash mob is also threatened, which could well mean the typical Austrian serenity is suddenly disturbed by a load of oddly dressed Brighton goons suddenly tearing past, shouting random Rick Astley lyrics.
