Street Style, Kerry

Sometimes in Street Style, less is definitely more. It’s not always about making a bold statement in a try-hard ensemble – free-spirited mismatching and quirky individualism will often turn heads but not always for the right reasons. Making the effort to make it all look quietly effortless will always win through.

We spotted Kerry around town, who fits this bill perfectly. She says, “My style varies. When I was younger I did have that roll-around-in-Oxfam look but as I get older I like more classic, comfortable things with little quirks; little subversions like buttons to show a bit of personality. I don’t feel like I have to exhibit myself.”

Read Kerry’s blog at yourstrulymag.blogspot.com, in the meantime here’s her outfit explanation.

Hat from Camden Passage
“I love olive green, it’s my favourite colour. My mum’s German and I love those sort of traditional, rural folk colours.”

Hair
“Is it natural? Ha, I wish! It’d save a lot of hassle. They’ve actually discontinued my colour so I’m on the hunt for another one. It’s always orangey-red.”

Shirt from Top Shop
“It’s a jersey shirt, I like it because it’s a classic style but not too stiff upper lip. It’s casual rather than austere.”

Pendant from grandmother

“It’s a silver locket that was my nanna’s – I inherited it. It has a photo of her and my grandfather inside.”

Shorts from Top Shop

“I like anything high waisted – again, I think this has quite a traditional, folky look.”

Socks from H&M

“I love anything with a floral print.”

Shoes from eBay

“These are tan brogues I got online. Yes, they were a bargain – I’m always looking for a bargain on eBay.”

Kitten print bag from charity shop

“I love it! I always see old ladies out with it for some reason – it’s real granny chic. I get grandmothers on the tube saying, ‘Ooh, I like your bag!’ I got mine for 20p in a charity shop.”
