Maccabees

WANNASEE MACCABEES?
Eastbourne, famous for its elderly population, and, well, not much else is trying to fill that gap with the Eastbourne Festival. Started last year, it’s back, and takes place in the last weekend of April. The festival is split into two evenings, Friday is the band night, and highlights include Friendly Fires, and a chance for everyone who missed out on Maccabees sold out Concorde gig. Saturday night is the festivals club night, which has a definite drum’n’bass flavour with sets from Andy C, Shy FX, and Chase & Status.

DUKES UP

Hereldeduke is starting to raise some national eyebrows – Radio One plays for their All I Know single and now Helm Blues has been nominated for a Musical Comedy Award (it’s meant to be funny, luckily) – vote for it at tinyurl.com/hereldeduke. There’s also a rather good take on Massive Attack’s Angel on the Hereldeduke MySpace page as well, with the original video mixed with Dukey new footage in what they’re calling a ‘vidleg’.

GIG AND GIVE

Brighton Women’s Centre, like a lot of charities, is inevitably going to suffer from the economic downturn, as our pockets become a little shallower. To help prop them up a bit, Belushi’s is putting on a charity gig on Thursday 23rd – line-up details aren’t yet confirmed, but it’s a good cause anyway.

ZIGGY PLAYED AUDIO

With The Dame now in semi retirement, the chances of seeing Mr Bowie live again, especially in Brighton, are slim to say the least. So up steps Bowiesque, a tribute act featuring a proper Dave doppelganger, playing at Audio on Saturday 11th, with proceeds going to The Sussex Beacon.

BATTLING FOR ABSOLUTE SUPREMACY

Absolute Brighton TV are holding the finals of their Absolute LIVE battle of the bands televised contest at the Concorde 2 on Saturday 5th. Doors open at 2.30pm where the last dozen hopefuls are joined by Stick It On DJs and a bunch of goons making arses of themselves playing Guitar Hero in the front bar.
