“What are they on?” and “will it ever wear out?” must have been the type of questions that passed everyone’s mind at least once on this cold November night of insanity at The Brighton Dome. Regardless of what “it” was, Gogol Bordello made sure there was enough of it to go around the whole crowd.
For the first time since 2007, Eugene Hütz and his entourage, famous for their out-of-control enthusiasm and energy, were in Brighton to test the Dome for durability. This time around, however, they weren’t even trying to hide that fact. While egging the crowd on to jump with the music, chanting in his galvanizing broken accent “we are gonna bring down the house” it seemed like the balcony was going to collapse under the weight of as many pairs of feet as there were tickets going up and down.

In the end, did it collapse? No… but it did look a little roughed up around the edges. The support bands – DeVotchka and Alain Johannes, whilst being remarkable in their own right, in this context both were dwarfed by the eccentric might of Gogol Bordello.
