Opus Kink are back with a new EP and headline show

On a Friday evening at Mutations Festival deep in the packed cellar of the Latest Music Bar, after a particularly vibrant set by the Lambrini Girls, SOURCE first encountered this band of miscreants. To say we were hooked from the first note is somewhat of an understatement.

Within seconds we were transfixed as keyboard player Jazz was draped across his church organ pulpit like a deranged laudanum-addicted preacher with murder on the mind, while frontman Angus told his stories of salvation and damnation. Within 24 hours their entire back catalogue had been purchased on Bandcamp and the new favourite band klaxon had well and truly been sounded.

They draw from the wild dirt of the Fat White Family and the Amazing Snakeheads, and add some propulsive fiery Latin brass. The songwriting comes from the deep dark well of classic singers and wild performers that includes Ian Dury, Johnny Cash and of course Mr Nick Cave himself.

Battle hardened from a UK tour supporting Warmduscher, the Brighton band are now back with a tour of their own and a new EP, ‘My Eyes, Brother!’. The tour includes a Brighton show on June 2nd for you lucky sinners, deep beneath the seafront in the darkness of Patterns.

The first single from the new EP is ‘Dust’ which lulls you in with a gentle piano start before launching into an attack reminiscent of both the Osmonds’ ‘Crazy Horses’ and ‘London Calling’ era Clash. The excellent video sees the band search for the Devil at Chanctonbury Ring before a possessed Angus buries his band by the sea.

If Angus can resurrect the band in time, this show will be an essential feast of pagan midsummer glory.
