The Mercury Prize-nominated Nadine Shah has announced a warm-up show at Chalk, before she heads out on tour with Young Fathers.

Shah is an engaging and never-less-than-stunning performer, so this night promises to be something special. Carried by her genuine North East charm, she mixes the purr of Eartha Kitt with the gravitas of Siouxsie Sioux and the very natural gothic badassness of more obvious comparisons like Mr Cave and Miss Polly.

Her excellent live band includes the low-slung bass of Jimi Wheelwright of Tigercub fame and the screeching sax of Pete Wareham of Melt Yourself Down.

Shah has spent much of what have been some very challenging years holed up in the Sussex countryside near Lewes working on what will hopefully be her fifth album with producer and co-writer Ben Hillier. Some of the fruits of that labour will hopefully make it on to the set-list, for their live debut, alongside her formidable back catalogue.

Support on the night comes from Edinburgh artist Callum Easter whose raw bluesy electronic sounds conjure echos of Tom Waits and Mark Lanegan.
