David Devant & His Spirit Wife, Friday 12th December

Following on from their triumphant show at Lewes Con Club in March, David Devant & His Spirit Wife return to The Hope & Ruin for a pre-Xmas winter warmer. For those not in the know, their shows always have a fun element of surprise with a theatrical flourish, while their music has been described as ‘art rock’, but they are so much more than that in live performance.

Frontman Mikey Georgeson is a born entertainer, part Bowie, part Roxy, but definitely his own enigmatic man. The band also includes Foz Foster (ex-Monochrome Set) on guitar, and it’s not uncommon for Mikey’s kids to get in on the act. A whole treasure trove of musical and visual treats can be expected, with their most recent Cut Out and Keep Me album rating as one of the best of their career.

There is strong support from Brighton regulars Would-be-goods. Formed in 1987 and named after the 1901 novel The Wouldbegoods, by The Railway Children author E. Nesbit, Would-be-goods are a British indie pop ‘supergroup’ comprised of singer Jessica Griffin, guitarist Peter Momtchiloff (Talulah Gosh, Heavenly), Debbie Green, drummer and darling of the London nineties garage scene with Thee Headcoatees, and Andy Warren, legendary bassist of the original Adam And The Ants and The Monochrome Set.

David Devant & His Spirit Wife with Would-be-goods play The Hope & Ruin on Friday 12th December.

Tickets are available online here.
