The Volks is obviously the true bastion of renegade underground club and rave culture in Brighton as well as the home of a many a weekend skinhead ska and scooter bash. Whilst being used over the years in the Great Escape and other multi-venue events like Psych Fest, it has not really been a regular venue on the Brighton gig circuit. Joy Promotions are cleary trying to change that, with a series of free gigs.
As part of this they are launching the new Gone Fishing showcase. In fact more accurately, they are setting up the showcase, because they so excited about the chance to work with Melbourne three piece Dumbhead, that they felt it needed something special.
We can see why. Imagine what it might have been like to catch an early gig by Portishead before those songs had truly engrained themselves as classics in your mind. Essentially that is what is on offer here. An intimate night with an Australian band, who’s music is of a quality that it may well take them to the same level as the obvious comparisons.
It’s free. What have you got to loose?
