Congratulations to Resident for being voted England’s favourite independent record shop in the Record Store Day poll. In our own poll on Facebook and Twitter, SOURCE readers said they love Resident because it’s friendly, knowledgeable, quirky, reliable and, for some, because of the adjacent sweet shop enabling simultaneous face-stuffing and record browsing.

Record Store Day is Saturday April 16th and the nations No.1 indie emporium – alongside our other great shops Rounder, Ape, Borderline, Edgeworld, Dance 2 and Monkey Music – has more than 250 special releases to celebrate. Highlights include limited edition only-in the-shops releases from Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Radiohead and The Beach Boys. Open at 8am there’s going to be a queue and a the small number of copies means they’re operating on a first come first serve basis.

Get there early so you can make the most of the giveaways and offers – queues started last year at 5am, and this year Resident is opening an hour early, from 8am. For the hardcore, Brighton Coffee Co will be on the scene from 7am doing the coffee run.
