Choral cries and hypnotic strings make up Julianna Barwick’s strange and beautiful musical landscapes. For her fourth album ‘Will’, released in May, Barwick further unmoors herself from her folk beginnings and builds up intricate, wordless cathedrals of sounds which are at once uncanny and sublime. It might sound a bit esoteric, but even ambient sceptics should be charmed by sparkling layers of melody in the lush, interwoven musical textures. Switch off your smartphone and space out as the queen of the loop pedal transforms the Komedia into an echoing, interstellar wonderland.
