Ever wondered what it’s like backstage at Brighton’s Grade II* listed Theatre Royal? Well, Brighton-based theatre company, Play On, are giving you the opportunity to experience that unique environment in two immersive promenade performances on Tuesday 25th August.

Inspired by the stories and spaces of the historic theatre, audiences will be invited on a backstage tour with a difference, blending theatre, poetry and installation. Featuring some of Brighton’s most exciting emerging and established artists, including James Cooney (RSC/Off West End Award for Best Actor for Bottleneck), OFFIE-nominated actress and two-time Hammer & Tongue National Poetry Slam finalist Lia Burge and acclaimed writer/director Adam Barnard (Orange Tree/NT), this will be an evening brimful with talent.

Play On Theatre was formed in 2025 by award-winning theatre director Bethany Pitts (National Theatre Studio, Soho & Mercury Theatres) and critically-acclaimed theatre-maker Jon Cooper (Old Vic New Voices, Sony, Channel 4) to nurture and produce new work with the most exciting Brighton-based artists. Their short play nights have been sell-out successes at The Actors, Brighton, and they will be in residency at the Brighton Dome this autumn.

Combining new voices with the history-soaked atmosphere of an old institution, this will be an unmissable theatrical experience. Audiences are limited to 30 at a time for each of the two performances, so get your tickets while you can!

Running Time: 60 mins

Date & Times: Tuesday 25th August 2026 7pm & 8.30pm (Max audience of 30 at a time)

Location: Brighton Theatre Royal, Stage Door, 36 Bond St, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN1 1RD (please note, this performance will start from Stage Door of the Theatre Royal)

Tickets: £15 (plus booking fee)
