After receiving surprisingly high praise from the likes of Mark Perry on the BBC’s recent Punk Britannia series, perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate Hersham’s Cockney cowboys. Blighted by their misappropriation by the far right, who saw the band’s disenfranchised working class fanbase as an easy recruitment pool, Sham 69 nonetheless produced some classic singles such as ‘Borstal Breakout’ and ‘Angels With Dirty Faces’. Jimmy Pursey’s back on board so lace up your Docs and get down the front. No gobbing though, please.
