Soak, an Irish singer songwriter who gained plaudits far and wide for her debut album ‘Before We Forgot How To Dream’, has been compared to artists such as Cat Power, Laura Marling and Joni Mitchell. Her name is an amalgamation of soul and folk which is a succinct way to describe her sound. Vocally it sits in the folk tradition but the music is more electronic, a good reference point being Baltimore dream pop duo Beach House. When Soak was asked to describe her music she said, “It’s weird, generally, a bit of alternative, a bit folk.” However it’s described, it’s arresting and haunting and you should check it out.
