Unlike many reformed 70s/80s bands, The Specials eschew the cheesy, throwback package tours in favour of mid-sized venues with well-chosen supports and DJs. Like Dexys, their legacy is so great and fanbase so reverentially dedicated that each show is like a messianic second coming, reducing grown men to tears and thrilling new audiences that weren’t even born during their heyday. Their last Brighton show proved they’d lost none of their power or cynicism but more importantly that they are still a great live band with iconic songs to spare.
