When people talk about the hip hop golden age they mean lots of different years but generally they’re banging about the early to mid 90s. And that’s exactly the time that Jailbait mines. God, there are some great tunes, particularly from America – positive, good vibes, throw your hands up and have fun shit. Which is probably why Jailbait is packed every week with a hyped up fresh crowd who remember this amazing music from their big brothers playing it growing up.
The dancefloor is where all the action happens, the main floor rammed while the other tunnel has just enough room for throwing proper shapes. The Jailbait crew make every effort to have the night feel special. When we popped in they were all dressed like west coast gangsta rappers and had drafted in cheerleaders, not that any pepping up was needed. It’s the absolute antithesis of a moody hip hop and r’n’b night.
