Art: Do Knit Disturb

It’s a long time since art was the exclusive preserve of galleries. From Henry Moores to stencils on doors, there’s now seemingly nowhere original art can’t take root. But a hotel room? Usually the only art you’ll see there is an endless array of bland reproductions, joylessly bought in bulk and framed in homogeneity. Until now.

The Pelirocco has long believed that a hotel room isn’t just a bed for the night. Their individually designed rooms have always impressed and Do Knit Disturb, the latest addition from designer Kate Jenkins of Cardigan, is certainly no exception. The entire room is a crochet-covered concept; the telephone, lampshade and tea set, accessorised by knitted extras like a toothpaste tube and even a woollen fry-up. Five kilos of yarn went into this creation that’s already made national headlines, and it’s in situ for the next three years.
