Continuing the good fight to rescue education’s most unsexy subject, Brighton Science Festival returns with a month-long programme of talks, workshops and weird experiments. There’s loads of hands-on stuff for kids during half term, but there’s also some pretty timely talks about the banking crisis, transhumanism and the future of the internet. Elsewhere, Trevor Cox shows off his trove of extraordinary recorded sounds; Simon Singh reveals the maths hidden inside episodes of The Simpsons; while Amateur Transplants and Festival Of The Spoken Nerd spearhead the unlikely new genre of scientifically-minded musical comedy. It’s not all dry and factual though, there’s also mention of fighting robots, musical roads and exploding whales. Michael Gove wouldn’t approve, which is one of the reasons we like it.
