The Spiegeltent Is Back For May

One of our favourite places to hang out last Festival/Fringe season was The Spiegeltent. Not only was the tent itself great – can you even call something with that much wood a tent, when does it become a shed? – the garden was the place to be in the sunshine. Anyway, enough reminiscing, we’re here to say that it’s back, and the line up of events is looking pretty good. Most excitingly Cassetteboy are playing live with their collaborator DJ Rubbish. There’s some very exciting news coming from them, but we heard it third hand so can’t spill the beans yet.

Elsewhere The Tiger Lillies bring their punk cabaret – quite a coup considering they were playing to a sold out Dome last year. The Poets are Verses the MCs again, while Copperdollar celebrate their new album on Freshly Squeezed. There’s a Brighton Open Air Theatre Benefit, Eliza Skelton dives between medieval madrigals and British folk, and Gabby Young & Other Animals promise to tear things up with circus swing, fractured electronica and raucous theatrical pop punk. And fresh from their success winding up racists at the March For England, the English Disco Lovers (EDL) will be putting smiles on everyone’s faces at one of the many late night parties.

That’s just the music – there’s also talks, cabaret, art, family events, tea dances and the launch of Brighton Fashion Week. It’s open until midnight on school nights and 2.30am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday – and the garden and Spiegelpub are free to get into all night. If you get hungry there’s food from Spade and Spoon, CinCin, Gelato Gusto and Sam’s Of Brighton. Actually we might never leave. Is there room for another tent?
