Corridor Gallery Opens Its Doors

Launched by a group of savvy local artists, the much anticipated Corridor Gallery has finally opened its doors on York Place in what used to be One Eyed Jacks. The gang behind the venture (which includes ten local working artists) will be showcasing a diverse range of exhibitions as well as selling affordable artwork in the gallery’s shop.

Corridor promises to be a low-commission zone, providing accessible gallery space exclusively for local artistic talent to exhibit. By cutting out the greedy middle man, the gallery will run as a not-for-profit artist co-operative. The free monthly exhibitions will feature established artists as well as introducing new blood to the Brighton art scene.

Artist Lucy Kenward, a member of the collaboration explains: “It’s been two years of very hard work for us to make this logistically possible, and we are extremely excited to be opening Corridor with Dum-Dum Strategem, an exhibition by Petting Zoo.”

Petting Zoo as an artist is a bit of an enigma. His claim that he will be exhibiting “An assortment of artefacts from a career gone skew-wiff,” sounds pretty intriguing to us. You may not recognise the man behind the poster, but you’ll probably recognise the poster. He impresses us as much as he has impressed the bands that request his skills (Bat For Lashes, Esben And The Witch, Alabama Shakes, etc). Dum-Dum Stratagem, which runs until Oct 5th, is all about bold, punchy, limited edition collectables and hand pulled screenprints. If you’re into gig poster artwork this will be your bag.

Corridor Gallery, 28 York Place, Brighton, 11am-6pm, not open Tuesdays, free
