New Pop-Up Brings Fresh Fashion to Brighton

Open until 4th October in the heart of North Laine It Is What It Is showcases the work of four young designers hoping to make their mark on the fashion industry. From unicorn prints to Disney themed co-ords and hand painted birds, shoppers can find unique one-offs without blowing this month’s payslip.

Known for its playful and bold hand-drawn prints, London-based brand McIndoe Designs is using the store to launch their autumn collection (pictured) with designs for men, women and children. Their tropical, bright prints seem like a good tonic for the looming wintry months.

The pop-up is part of a year-long initiative by somewhereto_ and Pop-Up Brighton which provides a space for a different concept every week and gives young entrepreneurs a chance to try out an idea. This summer we’ve already seen a record shop, a voting booth and a board game cafe. The project is the brainchild of Ashleigh Ward – the same guy SOURCE interviewed for last week’s Bring Your Own Beamer event at the Corn Exchange.

Designer Maddy McIndoe says: “It can be really difficult to try and get your products on the high street as a new label, so it’s brilliant to have the opportunity to have your own space where you can test new designs and personalise the shop so customers can really see what the brand is about.”

Some of you might not need another excuse to go shopping, but this Saturday (Oct 3rd) you can head down to the Gloucester Road pop-up between 3-7pm to meet the designers and enjoy a glass of bubbly, nibbles and giveaways while checking out the collection.

It Is What It Is, 102 Gloucester Road, BN1 4AP, open daily 10am-6pm until 4th October

Anna is a scouser living in Brighton. By day she heads up a PR team at one of Brighton's most well known digital agencies. By night and at weekends she's getting to know her new city (mainly by eating and drinking her way around it!). She loves writing, making stuff and walking her pooch. She once sang live on Songs of Praise, but more on that another time.
