If expansive, atmospheric, slow-building Canadian indie rock is your thing, then you’re probably already a fan of Besnard Lakes. The band are supporting Ride in the States right now, but the good news is they’re coming to the UK in November for two dates, including Brighton’s Sticky Mike’s on Sunday 15th. It’s a pretty small venue for them (last time they were in town they played Komedia) so it might not be a good idea to wait till the last minute to get tickets.

If you’re new to The Bezzies — as their mates (probably) call them — we’d recommend starting with their third LP ‘The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night’. If the California-style harmonies on its soaring single ‘Albatross’ don’t move you, then you’re probably a lost cause. ‘People Of The Sticks’, from their latest album, is also a mighty tune. The bass that kicks in around the three-and-a-half minute mark is so low that its full frequency range can only be heard by whales. Probably.
