Street Source No.8

Street Source is a regular feature showcasing photos taken around Brighton over the course of a month by one of our photographers. The idea is to share spontaneous moments around town – be it incidental street scenes, snapshots of people’s lives or images of the city as a landscape. Each month we ask a different local photographer to participate.

Local snapper Xavier Clarke took on the challenge during October, capturing overcast skies, buskers and some impressive Halloweeners.

“I love living in Brighton,” explains Xavier. “It’s one of the most vibrant cities I have ever been to and it’s never quiet! I loved doing these for Brighton Source, I had plans and ideas, I really wanted to capture something different in our city and I was lucky enough to get the month of Halloween.”

People love and trust their pets, sometimes too much. This one seemed to be helping its owner with some reverse parking.

During October there were several photography pop-ups around the city for the photo fringe. I love photographs, I love photography, it made sense to photograph people looking at photographs!

Every week I see the bubbles and I love the enthusiasm this guy has for his work!

On a cold night I was photographing Omar at St Mary’s Church. Whilst waiting for the show to start I was discussing this project with another photographer and this couple walked past with an umbrella, even though it wasn’t raining.

There is a debate on where exactly I live: some say Hove, but most say Portslade. With a BN3 post code, it’s Hove! On the left of the road is Portslade, on the right we’re in Hove Actually.

These must be most lonely beach huts in the city.

On returning from a meeting in London, I had a little time to kill so I started talking to this fine musician. He told me he’s out there as much as possible because playing keeps him warm!

Inside the station I spotted another musician. He explained that he plays the piano whenever he can, but some of the keys are broken now and he has to improvise.

Whilst on my weekly walk from the Dojo with my daughter we passed these hungry chaps, it was too good to pass up!

I love the Komedia legs, and the subtlety of the missing shoe. I’ve taken lots of shots of these legs and I always try to make sure the shoe is there.

It was almost Halloween, and people were starting early – or just out for a normal Saturday. Either way, they looked fantastic!

Kerry was working at the Railway Inn for their Halloween party. I think she probably won the fancy dress that night.
