DJ Shadow, Tues 15th and Wed 16th August

A peek at the Concorde 2 site tells you DJ Shadow “needs no introduction”. For the rabid fans that snatched up all the tickets to this comparatively small scale visit to Brighton, that would definitely seem to be true.

San Francisco’s Josh Davis is every bit the turntablist’s turntablist, having initially made his name in the instrumental hip hop scene of the late 1990s. But he evolved, moving into comically accomplished DJ battling (with Brainfreeze and Product Placement), then pioneering the use of new genres and technologies while continually unearthing the most leftfield vinyl obscurities from across the globe.

‘Endtroducing’, his 1996 albatross/masterwork (depending on at which point in his career you asked him about it) remains a fan favourite, but is acknowledged as one of the most creative uses of a sampler ever put to wax. What’s more, it’s aged spectacularly well. But latest album ‘The Mountain Will Fall’, which Davis will be showcasing at this return visit to Brighton, has touches of the same – dare we say it – genius. Not to be missed.

Second date added due to demand.
