Kool & The Gang, Weds 14th June

We were hoping that Kool & The Gang might be added to the Love Supreme line up, as they are playing some shows in Europe with The Jacksons, but they’ve done better than that and are playing a headline show at Brighton Dome instead.

Although well known for their 80s heyday where hits such as ‘Celebration’, ‘Joanna’ and ‘Cherish’ came thick and fast, their 1970s back catalogue is made up of heavy grooves and certified funk classics. ‘Jungle Boogie’, ‘Summer Madness’ and ‘Hollywood Swinging’ are amongst the world’s most sampled songs and their early albums have long been sought after by crate-digging funk fans.

Still led by bass ace Robert ‘Kool’ Bell the gang includes brother Ronald on keys and several members of the original 1964 line-up who began by collaborating with jazz heavyweights such as McCoy Tyner, Leon Thomas, and Pharoah Sanders in New Jersey.

This promises to be a hit-filled night of classic dance music in the company of one of the true original funk groups.

Competition!
We’ve got a pair of tickets you can win by answering an incredibly easy question:
Which Kool & The Gang classic was used in the opening credits for Pulp Fiction?
This competition is now closed.
