Irate of M.O.D.U for Brighton's SOURCE magazine, Brighton's best listings, music, arts, club and culture magazine

We were immediately drawn to Irate’s stand-out ensemble. Matching colours to the madly geometric pattern of his shirt so seemingly effortlessly, but then he is head of his own fashion label, M.O.D.U. Never have we witnessed so many shades of turquoise all in one sitting, but it works beautifully; like a mesmerising abstract take on the ocean. He created the bum bag with the cheeky heart logo of his label winking away at us from under its’ skewed crown; an icon of our times, captured through the lens. Unfortunately we didn’t capture him wearing his signature piece: the tapechain. A graffiti artist as well as fashion designer, Irate customises cassettes, creating something new out of something old – but probably not suitable as a wedding accessory.

Shirt from “Camden somewhere”
“I have a stylist that helps me get inspiration for my own designs. I like to call my personal style Fresh N Funky…colour-wise it’s always colourful and bright.”

Jeans from H&M
“They were deadstock, so I got them as I thought, well, you know they were a really good bargain.”

Boots from a “rummage”

“They’re sort of Dr Martins type of boots. I can’t remember where I got them from. Sometimes I just rummage, I just go through different stores, they might be charity-based, where I just pick things up for really cheap.”

Neckerchief from Rokit, Camden

“They’re quite good for accessories.”

Bum bag from M.O.D.U

“Yeh that’s from my label, I designed and make them myself.”

Necklace from M.O.D.U

“I made those myself as well. My fashion label’s called M.O.D.U, you can find out about us and projects that we have going on at tapechain.com.”

Irate received a bottle of Tuaca for his get-up and go outfit, Tuaca being the perfect summer drink, bringing out the subtle tones of vanilla and citrus when served long over ice with cola.

Start chilled – finish responsibly.
