DEMO: THE DILATORS (myspace.com/thedilators)
A 21st century take on four-piece, punky pub rock doesn’t need to ingest any influences from this side of the late 70s – there’s a danger of dilution through modernisation that this ain’t-broke-don’t fix-it outfit cannily avoid. The Dilators (we recommend avoiding a Google image search…) ply a faithful rendition of a musical blueprint they clearly love and fully understand; their obvious long-time patronage of their sleeve-worn influences stands them in good stead here. Best enjoyed with a pint in your hand that you won’t mind spilling. (NC)

DEMO: YOKOKO (myspace.com/yokoko)
Reading the name and seeing the meticulously coloured-in CDR that makes up Yokoko’s submission to SOURCE, we imagined this might be a Day-Glo, Japanese-y take on Pipette pop, and we were only about 47% wrong. The errant percentage would be made up from classic 60s girl groups with the remainder bolstered by the kind of early 80s pop naiveté that gave us the likes of Mari Wilson and Tracy Ullman (students – here’s your Spotify homework for this month). With the right people behind the desk pushing the faders and twiddling the knobs, this could end up an eminently pleasing pop proposition. (NC)
