Brighton Digital Festival 2019

The ninth edition of Brighton Digital Festival kicks off on 10th October, running for two full weeks at various venues throughout the city. The 14-day event explores digital technologies, the creative things people are using them for and the influence they may ultimately have on our lives. There are a range of events and exhibitions as well as The Messy Edge conference, which examines the themes and implications of digital technology, featuring expert speakers from all over the world.

In keeping with the digital theme, there will be a host of eclectic and international electronic musicians. Planningtorock will be performing tracks from the deeply raw album ‘Powerhouse’ at a launch party at the Attenborough Centre on 11th October. American producer and composer Holly Herndon will also perform at ACCA on 17th October, showcasing material from the critically acclaimed ‘PROTO’ album. Influenced by technology, especially by AI, in the making of her latest album, Herndon says: “I don’t want to live in a world in which humans are automated off stage. I want an AI to be raised to appreciate and interact with that beauty.”

Brighton Digital Festival also includes a range of talks including What is a Digital Career? on 15th October for those interested in embarking on a career in this sector. There will also be interactive exhibitions such as Giving Poetry Wings at the Jubilee Library, which will use AR and VR to showcase how technology can be used to enhance and amplify literary art.
