Clued Up Brighton is a community event which takes place along Brighton seafront. The Clued Up crew Raise awareness of the impact that drugs and alcohol can have on people’s lives, our intrepid reviewer, Andy Wilson, took a stroll along the seafront to find out more. One of the live bands lending support to Clued up was local act Rubylux, who turned out to be an exceptional band, and for that afternoon, all in the name of public service gigging. For a band with a ‘catch them while you can’ tag, the free event must have felt like small fry. The reality for those Brightonians who did look up and take a moment out from their afternoon stroll to gaze upon Rubylux strumming away seemed all the more cheerful on what was a grey, Sunday afternoon.
A small, huddled group of passers by and volunteers witnessed an excellent and engaging ‘Best Of’ set from this competent four piece. Judging by the crowds’ agog reaction to their performance; the predictable round-up of their classic songs did no harm in shifting a few of the bands six track EP afterwards, and their debut album, FAKE_CONTROL_. We could sense that Rubylux took Clued Up’s message to heart, and gave it their all out there. A confident and praiseworthy, outdoor performance, rich in sound, and talent by the bucketload.
