Captain are back with a new single and album fundraiser

Captain, who released the top 30 album ‘This Is Hazelville’ in 2004, have not had the easiest of times. Their second album ‘Distraction’, which was caught up in label politics and lost in the vaults of EMI, was never released. More recently they lost their lead guitarist Mario Athanasiou to a battle with cancer.

Throughout these trials they have remained close friends and even recorded a third album, 2019’s ‘For Irini’, which helped raised funds for the cancer hospitals that treated their friend. They have now recruited a new guitarist Seb Wessen, who joins the original members: BIMM lecturer Rick Flynn, Clare Szembeck, Alex Yeoman and Ruben Humphries.

The excellent new single ‘High Beams’, which is packed full of pop hooks, was released in March of this year, and now the band want more. They have announced a 2024 album launch show at London’s Water Rats venue near King’s Cross and have set up a Kickstarter to raise funds to record the album. With a target of £5000, at the time of writing they only have £490 left to raise.

You can contribute to the Kickstarter campaign here.

Captain play the Water Rats on the 10th of February 2024. Tickets are available via the Kickstarter campaign.
