The Unthanks in Winter, Mon 18th December

Everyone’s favourite North East folk family, The Unthanks, return to Brighton Dome with a new seasonal show.

At this point in their almost 20 years together, it’s easy to imagine that The Unthanks must surely have done a seasonal winter album already, but no. The Unthanks premiere their dream-like winter fantasia – embracing both the dark and the light in the most ritualistic of seasons – moving in and out of focus, like a memory, a hymnal to our shared winter experience. Echoes of winter tunes known throughout the western world mix with the traditional and the newly written, all passed with great care and love through The Unthanks filter.

We’ve been besotted with them since 2008 when they performed at The Joogleberry Playhouse (now the Latest Music Bar) and The Spiegeltent and have seen them a dozen times since. Every show is different, every show is divine. You can read our review of their 2019 gig here.

Opening the show will be Katherine Priddy whose haunting vocals and distinctive finger-picking guitar style was described by none other than Richard Thompson as “the best thing I’ve heard all year”.

Tickets and further details are available at the Dome box office or online here.

Two lovely performances from actors at the top of their game, but a script and production that could benefit from more work.
