X-Ray Spex instore signing Fri 15th December

Brighton’s much-loved award-winning Resident Records has long been putting on amazing instore, outstore and signing events and they continue with a super-rare signing of the re-release of X-Ray Spex’s final album ‘Conscious Consumer’ by former members Lora Logic (sax) and Paul Dean (bass) on the day of its release this Friday.

The highly sought after album received a very limited CD-only release in 1995 on Receiver Records in the UK and has been officially unavailable for the past 27 years. It was originally intended to be the first part of a trilogy of releases but was tragically overlooked as Poly was unwell at the time of release and unable to promote it. It was only released to digital platforms earlier this year following the success of Poly’s daughter – Celeste Bell’s – book ‘Dayglo: The Poly Styrene Story’ and the excellent documentary film Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché. This reissue has been remastered from the original masters tape and will land on vinyl for the first time ever with unpublished lyrics and original sleeve notes from Poly Styrene.

The album is particularly notable for reuniting the iconic vocalist with the original X-Ray Spex saxophonist Lora Logic and bassist Paul Dean, as well as featuring guitar from Kula Shaker frontman Crispian Mills under his then pseudonym Red Spectre. Dean later reunited with Poly Styrene for X-Ray Spex’s celebratory final gig at London’s iconic Roundhouse in 2008.

Lora Logic was fired from the band following the release of their debut single ‘Oh Bondage, Up Yours!’ in 1977 and would go on to form her own band Essential Logic, who signed with Rough Trade Records, achieving cult status in their own right, before retiring from the music industry in the early 1980s and becoming Hare Krishna. Lora and Poly would go on to reconnect at the Krishna Temple.

To join this special meet-and-greet event you just need to pre-order the album on CD or limited edition vinyl via this link.
