Champagne For Lulu, Tuesday 12th November 2024

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeelll, the living legend that is Marie Laurie, or Lulu to her fans, is celebrating turning 75 last year and 60 years since she stormed into the UK charts with her iconic hit ‘Shout’, becoming a much-loved national treasure.

It’s hard to comprehend that she is now 75 but also the remarkable achievements that followed that unforgettable first single released as Lulu & The Luvvers in 1964. She appeared in To Sir With Love with Sidney Poitier, singing Don Black’s classic title song in 1967, won Eurovision in 1969 with Boom Bang-a-Bang and in 1974 sang a James Bond theme song, The Man with the Golden Gun and recorded two David Bowie songs, with the man himself playing sax and producing her. She also recorded an album in Muscle Shoals, hosted Jimi Hendrix on her TV show and married a Bee Gee.

Jump forward to 1993 and she was back on Top Of The Pops with her single Independence, duetted with Bobby Womack and got to number one when she joined Take That on Dan Hartman’s Relight My Fire.

This show takes its name from her cameo appearance on Absolutely Fabulous and she promises to deliver the performance of a lifetime, on what has been announced as her farewell tour. Energetic, effervescent and emotional, this should be an experience to remember. Soak her up while you can.
