Midge Ure, who headlines at Brighton Dome in November, may be mostly remembered for co-writing and organising the Band Aid single and his powerful voice on Ultravox hits such as Vienna but across a varied career that began in the early 70s with Scottish pop-rockers Slik, he went on to join Rich Kids with a post-Sex Pistols Glen Matlock, then, after one year, Ure and drummer Rusty Egan left to form Visage with lead vocalist Steve Strange and produced two classic albums.
Ever busy, in 1979 he replaced Gary Moore as guitarist in Thin Lizzy and went on to co-write Top Of The Pops theme Yellow Pearl with Phil Lynott and resurrected Ultravox, replacing John Foxx on lead vocals and enjoying chart success for the following six years. In 1984, he co-wrote and produced the charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” for the supergroup Band Aid, which he organised with Bob Geldof and he remains a trustee for the charity. The single, which sold 3.7 million copies in the UK at first release, has become a staple of Christmas compilations ever since, and is the second-highest-selling single in UK chart history. He also organised the events Live Aid and Live 8 with Geldof, and serves as an ambassador for Save the Children.
In November he will bring his ‘A Man Of Two Worlds’ tour to Brighton Dome. This bold new live concept offers fans a rare and deeply personal concert experience. For the first time, Ure will blend his iconic hits and fan favourites with the atmospheric instrumentals that have long featured on his solo albums — many of which have never been performed live. The result is promised to be a rich show designed to take the audience on an emotional journey, both visually and sonically.
Throughout his career, Midge Ure has always challenged musical expectations, and with Ivor Novello, Grammy and BASCAP awards to his name, he continues to push boundaries with this ambitious new show. This show will be a rare chance to experience a truly unique evening of music that bridges decades of creativity — a live set not just performed, but curated and woven together into an unforgettable narrative.
Opening the show is Anglo-French dark synth-pop duo Scenius, formed by UK producer Steve Whitfield, based in Leeds, and singer Fab Nau, based in Angers,France. The two share a passion for vintage synth sounds from the pioneer era (Kraftwerk, Brian Eno, John Foxx), the post-punk spirit of icons such as Joy Division, New Order, and The Cure, and the modern approach to electronic production brought by bands like LCD Soundsystem and Boards of Canada.
