The new ad campaign by seaside utopia Skegness claims the Lincolnshire town is better and, specifically, more beautiful than Brighton. “For Sights You’ll Want To Remember – Visit Skegness,” it suggests over a picture of the tourist hotspot that is Black Rock.
Our editor grew up in Lincoln so knows Skeggy like the back of his hand and claims that the graffiti at Black Rock is as pretty as anything the east coast town has to offer. Still at least they didn’t go into what happens in the bushes down there in any detail. The missed a dirty trick there.
To add insult to injury for the poor yellowbellies, the picture they’ve used to illustrate their volleyball tour is a beautiful shot of, you guessed it, Brighton’s court. While the organisers of SO Festival claim the image was supplied to them, they’re not exactly shouting that it’s us and not them.
It’s clearly a bit of a wind up as the festival tried to run the advert in The Argus (they refused) and festival director comes from Brighton. But “those in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones,” as Julie Drayton wrote on the Skegness Standard’s Facebook page.
