It’s been a long time coming but the council has finally approved a concrete skatepark for The Level as part of the £2.2m Lottery grant-funded restoration. If you’re interested the vote was six to four in favour of the plans, with two abstentions. So far there’s £150,000 to build the sunken, polished concrete park north of the Rose Walk.
“The skate park will form an integral part of the restoration of the park which is being done in consultation with local people,” says Councillor Pete West, chair of the city’s environment committee. “Together we are creating a park which will have a broad appeal and be a flagship open space in the city.”
There’s been a skate park at The Level since the 70s, but it’s been in a pretty poor state for a while so this is great news for the city’s skaters and BMX riders.
