Fairport Convention, Sat 9th Feb

Dec 9, 2012

Posted by Stuart Huggett

Trees blossom, crops grow, seasons rise and fall, and somewhere deep in England’s fields Fairport outlast them all. The folk rock pioneers have endured for over 45 years, with a list of acclaimed alumni as long as your arm. Singer-guitarist Simon Nichol has been there on and off from the start, with only long-serving bassist Dave Pegg putting in more time over the years. Still recording (or, in the case of last year’s celebratory ‘By Popular Request’, re-recording), never off the road, this show promises to be an intimate evening with Britain’s most credible 60s survivors (sit down, Jagger).

Stuart Huggett grew up in Hastings, writing fanzines and blogs about the town’s underground music scene. He has been a regular contributor to SOURCE, NME, The Quietus and Bowlegs. His huge archive of magazines, flyers and vinyl is either an invaluable research tool or a bloody pain. He occasionally runs tinpot record label Dizzy Tiger, DJs sporadically and plays live even less.
