Gear Boggles, Thurs 11th August

If you’re curious to try the new virtual reality headsets, or have heard nothing about them and want to check it out, The Craft Beer Co. are bringing their ‘Gear Boggles’ event to their pub on Upper North Street to give you the chance to try them out. The Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Samsung Gear VR headsets will be available to try from £4 for a 30 minute session.

The gaming and home entertainment industry is on the brink of a revolution as this year sees virtual reality headsets becoming commercially available. More importantly they’re affordable, at least in the context of what fans are used to spending on consoles and gaming PCs. Whilst mainly thought of for gaming, virtual reality is open to a whole host of opportunities such as films, live music, remote location viewings (think seeing your hotel room before you book) and bespoke experiences.

The event page lists games available for the Oculus Rift but only the offers a ‘selection of different experiences’ for the HTC and Samsung; hopefully more details will be available soon. It will be your chance to satisfy your curiosity and understand if it’s worth the hype. From our own experience it’s something to get excited about, put aside any concerns of bewildering dizziness and nausea.

This one-person, one-act play is giddy, funny and seriously entertaining. An odyssey through the madness of corporate pressure on our mental health.
