A fortnight ago Derbyshire’s Haiku Salut brought their intricate, part-folk, part-classical compositions to the Concorde 2 bar as guests of The Wedding Present. Returning to headline the West Hill Hall tonight, the multi-instrumentalist trio present their Lamp Show, surrounding themselves with a couple of dozen charity shop lamps that flicker and dance in time to their sprightly, motorik music. Supporting, alongside Brighton’s Such Small Hands, is former Standard Fare leader Emma Kupa, now fronting another rocking indiepop trio, Mammoth Penguins. An excellent, underrated songwriter, Kupa’s solo debut ‘Home Cinema’, a mini-album study of her family history, is one of the year’s hidden gems.
