Five years ago, Let’s Wrestle were scrappy little puppies with a cleverly-titled debut ‘In The Court Of The Wrestling Let’s’ full of enthusiastic, wayward and humorous indie rock. Unexpectedly embraced by our American friends (Merge signed ’em, Albini recorded ’em) they’ve recently returned with a slightly more mature, eponymous third LP, enlisting the help of Darren Hayman (Hefner), Roxanne Clifford (Veronica Falls), Max Bloom (Yuck) and more. Mature is pretty relative in Let’s Wrestle’s case though, with songwriter Wesley Patrick Gonzalez’ untutored vocals and idiosyncratic subject matter as far from Radio 2 drivetime as ever.
