As summer turns to autumn, Mark E Smith hits the road. It is an immutable constant in the universe: the Fall tour in the fall. They are, and have been for many years, a band of sheer dogged consistency first and foremost. There are things which will certainly happen, as per: Mark E Smith wandering off the stage, turning the amps on and off, passing the microphone to the audience, all over the inevitable scuzzy 4:4 pub rock backing. What remains to be seen is which band members are still onboard – and what flecks of freewheeling inspiration Smith has deigned to scatter over the monolithic routine this year.
