James Jackson Toth’s various incarnations of Wooden Wand started making a name for themselves in the noughties, in the uneasily defined – by Brit critics – New Weird America movement (Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom etc). Toth’s voice is that of a classic wandering troubadour, while Wooden Wand’s music covers the ground between slocore country, psychedelic excursions and free folk. New album ‘Blood Oaths Of The New Blues’ is a hushed, intense listen.
